Plymouth: a vibrant synthesis of old and new.

Just over a mile south of Light House Point lies the historic town of Plymouth, founded by the Pilgrims in 1620. Plimoth Plantation stands as a proud monument to our earliest settlers. Other sites within a short distance are Plymouth Rock, the Jenney Grist Mill, 1677 Harlow Old Fort House and the Mayflower II. Today, nearly four centuries later, this vibrant community is home to 55,000 year-round residents.

From museums to golf to shopping, you’ll find activities to appeal to every taste. Enjoy a gourmet meal overlooking the harbor. Hire a charter boat to go deep sea or sport fishing. Enjoy parasailing, antiquing, or gallery hopping. Hike, bike, or horseback ride at the 15,000 acre Myles Standish Forest. The town even boasts its own symphony orchestra, the critically acclaimed Plymouth Philharmonic, which has been presenting a regular series of concerts for nearly a hundred years.

The future of Plymouth has a sense of excitement at being chosen for the site for Plymouth Rock Studios, the largest film studios built east of Hollywood. With construction to begin in the spring of 2009, it is estimated to employ some 3,000 people and be constructed using the same environmentally sensitive products and designs as Light House Point. Construction at Cordage Park, long in the development stage, is also set to begin in 2009 with plans calling for a large marina, retail, offices, restaurants, condos and apartments with a pedestrian promenade along the water.
